Playboating for Clubs

Get Your Club Playing

We are offering clubs across the UK a chance to book a FlowFree “Get Your Club Playing” session – which brings expert coaches, demo boats and GB Team paddlers to your club.

We aim to inspire and enthuse while showing you how playboating can be used in your existing club sessions for even more fun and improved learning at all levels by:

  • giving people new challenges
  • improving core skills
  • improving fitness & spacial awareness
  • improving people’s roll
  • improving confidence

The sessions will be fun and useful for both paddlers and coaches of all abilities.

What is it?

A team of FlowFree’s expert freestyle coaches and top GB Freestyle Team paddlers will come to your club with a range of demo playboats. We’ll put on an inspirational display of flatwater acrobatics to get everyone fired up and show what is possible, before providing active coaching sessions that let everyone get involved.

No club is the same, so the exact content of the course will be tailored around the abilities, experience and available resources within your club. Typically these sessions will cover:

  • introducing playboating to beginners
  • fault-finding & fault-fixing for common playboating pitfalls
  • expert coaching on specific flatwater moves, such as the double-pump, cartwheel, tailie, bow-stall or flatwater loop
  • breaking moves down into practicable chunks

Obviously, limited time is a factor at most club sessions so we can also run dry workshops and Q&A sessions, ether before or after the pool / flatwater session where a suitable venue is available. Topics which could be covered in dry sessions include:

  • an introduction to the moves
  • using video to compare performances & feedback
  • useful bank-based exercises
  • utilising available facilities (e.g. pool floats, the pool-side, pontoons etc)
  • how flaterwater playboating relates to playboating on moving water

Linking the session with an inspirational talk from one of our recent exploratory adventures is also possible.

Who is this for?

Paddlers who want:

  • an introduction to playboating
  • to be able to show off on flatwater!
  • to improve their flatwater playboating
  • to be able to help their mates progress
  • their mates to be able to help them get better at playboating

Coaches:

  • who want to be able to provide a more varied session
  • who can or can’t playboat themselves
  • all backgrounds / qualifications (or lack thereof!)

Or anyone who wants a greater understanding of what playboating is all about.

How much?

Half-day: £250 + 40p a mile from LL15 2DW and back for up to 3 hours.
Full-day: £400 + 40p a mile from LL15 2DW and back for up to 6 hours.

We can take up to 15 paddlers at once (venue permitting) and welcome clubs to split the session so that more paddlers get the benefit. Neighbouring clubs may wish to share the session and split costs.

The price includes use of a range of demo playboats (brought in directly by us), expert coaching, GB Team demonstrations and Q&A sessions for the whole club. We are not making big profits from this – the money covers the expenses of all those helping out, collection of demo boats, promotion of the scheme etc.

If you are a small club who would require fewer coaches, contact us as we may be able to provide a bespoke session for less.

How do we book?

To get your club playing, just email info@flowfree.co.uk or call 01824 710313 / 07810 878738 to arrange a suitable date.

Not a club?
